And The Conversations Keep Getting More Weird

The girls and I were on our way this morning to the zoo. While in the car, I turned on the car and was psyched to hear In Between Days by the Cure.

"Hey Baby Girl, this song was one of Mommy's and Daddy's favorite songs when we were younger."

"When you were babies?" Baby Girl asked as she danced in her booster seat.

"Um, no. We didn't know each other when we were babies. We liked this song when we were older."

"Were you getting married when you liked this song?"

"What do you know about getting married?" I asked, surprised to hear her use this term.

"Weeeellllll, when you were a princess and Daddy was a King, did you get married?"

"Yeah, I guess."

"Ohh. Well, maybe when I get bigger and am a grown-up princess and Peaches becomes a King, we will get married."

"Um, I don't think so sweetie. You aren't going to want to marry your sister. Someday you will meet someone you love and maybe you'll get married."

"Awww. Wait, I KNOW...I'll marry Eli!!!"

"Um, sorry Honey. You can't marry your cousin either."

"Awww pickles, Mom," she said with a scowl and her arms folded in front of her. "I wanna marry Eli."

"Uhhh--hey lookie, Baby Girl--we're at the zoo!"

"Are we going to see camels? Are they married?"

She might be able to marry Eli depending on what state they live in when they turn 18.

I just creeped myself out.

Oh there's nothing wrong with kissin cousins at three or four years old. Only at 12 do you need to worry. Hell, Maya is still convinced she's marrying her daddy.

Hey, how's the new house?

True story:
My half sister (we have the same mom) dated my uncle (my dad's 1/2 brother) when I was very young.
There are a ton of family photos of them together - seems so creapy and weird now.

Christopher was SO bummed when we told him he couldn't marry Sophie. I think he was four or five at the time.

Once kids get on a topic, it's awfully hard to get them off of it...isn't it? Still, that's one adorable conversation.

Ya'll might vote me off the island for admitting it, but when I was seven I had a massive crush on my 12 year old cousin. When you're little you don't know it's weird.

Nice deflection however!

My husband and I love The Cure. My favorite song is The Drowning Man, very depressing drug induced lyrics and music.(The Cure says so on the Cd)
I love how kids conversations can be so free associationy. Dont think thats a real word.
I had a crush on a distant cousin when I was young, then he was mean to me,so now I hate him.
