Our House is So Quiet Now

My friend Amy came to visit on Sunday from New Jersey. She brought Baby Girl's best friend Katie and her little brother Jack. Herr and I met Amy and her husband Michael about 3 1/2 years ago when we were all in the same Childbirth Class. I don't think we ever actually spoke during the class. I, for one, was entirely too bitched up to be all that friendly to anyone in the last 4-6 weeks of my pregancy. The class was at 7PM on Monday, so I was really tired, especially after working all day. Plus I was sick at the end of my pregnancy and was constantly leaving the class to cough up my lungs. We actually met up again after our kids were born and we saw each other at the local Babies R Us. The rest is history. Amy has been such a wonderful support system for me because our daughters are two weeks apart and we didn't know what the hell we were doing. At any rate, this week was a dizzying amount of chasing, giggling, playing, roughhousing, fighting, crying, watching Barney, (Jack LOVES him some Barney!) screaming, makeup parties, shrieking, dancing and dressing up in princess dresses. Occasionally, Amy and I relaxed while the children napped. By the second day, the four kids napped went down at the same time in the afternoon.

Baby Girl learned all about make up application this week from her friend Katie.

Despite all of the craziness in the house, my house has never been more organized, mealtimes and baths went like clockwork, and Amy was on top of the laundry (my least favorite chore.) Did I mention that Katie LOVES TO DUST? As a result, I asked Amy to marry me and she said YES! We might be onto something with the whole "two mothers/1 father household thing. We'll be setting up our commune just as soon as Herr figures out where his new job will be. And so Amy's husband Michael doesn't feel left out, he may join the commune as well. He is good at building stuff and westling with the kids. This really could work. I'll keep all of you posted.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting Jenette and her adorable son, Ethan. They came over after the kids' naps and there was more chasing and playing and arts and crafts and Barney watching. Ethan was initially shy, but got right into the thick of things in no time. It was a great time and I was so relieved that Baby Girl and Katie didn't hogtie Ethan and put him in a princess dress. Because it could have happened.

And now that Amy and her stinkin' cute kids are on their way back to New Jersey, our house is so quiet. So very quiet. It is bound to get a little noisy tomorrow when Herr's Aunt and Uncle come to stay. It should be interesting as Herr hasn't seen them in 15 years and I have never met them.

We hang out with another couple in our building and amazingly ennough she loves to clean, dust, and iron! Things that both wife and me dislike. Wife is just amazed because her whole apartmnet is spotless. Ours is not bad but wife will not iron under any circumstances. All those years in NYC got us spoiled I guess. Their kid is a bit older than ours but they get along great.
The girl would be perfect if she just had big boobs. Ooops, did I just say that out loud......

Nice weekend

When I first saw the pic of baby girl, I thought she'd been in a fight!

Another Mommy who will fold my laundry? Sounds worth it to me!

I'm always telling Wade that he's welcome to bring another wife home as long as she cooks and wears the same size shoes I do. Half the cooking, twice the shoes! It's a win-win for everyone!

That's one of the greatest photos I've ever seen! I have a feeling that's going to be one of the ones that you look back at years from now and you're just going to be cracking up. Too funny, Misfit.

I always said I needed a wife...LOL!

Sounds like y'all had a great time together. It's always good to have friends like that. Those that understand and totally getcha.

Flip side...you're just a regular motel up in there aren'tcha? I should pack my shit and come stay with ya.....I'll get my shoes on.

You're right KimmyK. We don't call it Hotel Hausfrau for nothing!

Oh, and Adventure Dad--I hate ironing. God invented drycleaners for a reason. Our drycleaner has a delivery service that comes through our neighborhood every Wednesday and Saturday. Now if I could get someone to come through my neighborhood on Wednesdays and Saturdays to put away the rest of my laundry...

the couple that we've known the longest (one of my best childhood friends is married to hubby's best friend from childhood) is perfect for us because the boys like to build stuff and we like to have nice lunches and drink wine. if we could get on board with changing teams, we'd all divorce and remarry.

alas, christine's feet are smaller than mine.

Man, you've just highlighted how much my husband and I need friends. friends with babies. We aren't friends with anyone that has kids. Well, not friends together. I have friends with babies but their husband are questionable. I'm going to get to work on that. As soon as I finish my wine.

Stefanie--we have only one set of friends here in Ohio with friends, and they have a very fulfilling social life that occasionally includes us. All of our friends with kids are everywhere else. It sucks.

I have a close friend outside of Boston, and I`m always joking about buying the house next door to her and starting a kids-and-moms commune... and allowing the husbands to visit sometimes. We think this would work very well.

Wow! You have a ton of stuff going on, but remain ever organized as ever. I'm glad you have a friend to travel along with on this crazy parenthood road. They can mean the difference between "Mommy" and "that crazy woman with a glazed over expression who hasn't moved in several hours."

Isn't it crazy how you actually meet your closest friends?

I have a friend that was my client at work. We became close when we were pregnant at the same time. Neither of us work for those companies any more and we don't even live in the same state and longer.

I talked to her this morning.
