Number of pissed of/stressed out phone calls between you and I between yesterday and today: at least 10.

Poor Wordgirl. I feel like you're our therapist these days....

Rock on with the Goodbye to Cinncinati and the U.S. Party. I'm so not kidding. Candace, plan a menu. We'll supply the booze and coffee, as per usual.

Me again. I found this picture, and I thought about using it on my site, since it looks just like me (riiight.) Yes or no?

Oh crap--- nevermind-- it didn't work.

God knows, if there's ANYone out there who can say "Fuck 'em then." and move on AND somehow come out ahead, it's you guys...

Hear there's mad developments in chemistry being made in Pittsburgh. I'm just sayin'...

Also - still curious why when one tries to comment on yesterday's address, you get the message "New comments have been disabled for this post by a blog administrator". Hrrmm???

Love you guys - "why can't I quit you?!" - hang tough -

okay, HOLD THE PHONES.

did you say edy's has a samoa ice cream? because if you said that and did not mean it, i shall cry.

That really sucks (was it P&G, by any chance?). Have you looked up here in Columbus at Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane, Inc (aka Roxane Labs)? They are a pharmaceuticals company and they have openings for researchers and chemists.

Best of all, they're considered one of the top companies to work for, thanks to generous benefits and good management. And Columbus still has a low cost of living like Cincinnati.

Sarcomical--Oh yeah--The Edy's Special Edition Girl Scout Cookie Ice Creams are out here in Cincinnati. My favorite is the Tagalongs. My husband's is the Samoas. And Edy's ACTUALLY refers to it as Samoa instead of the new "PC" name that the Girl Scouts changed it to. Go. Look for it. It's out there. But only for a limited time!

I'm on it! Any requests?

How are your pierogies? I've been too lazy to make some.

Notice how nice people like Christina are actually giving me tips on jobs for my husband (Thank you by the way!) but all I am doing is responding to people's questions about food? Tells you where my mind is!!!!

Hey, I'm pulling for Pittsburgh too. We'd be lucky to have y'all back here. Let me know if any CMU contacts would be useful.

Thanks for the ice cream tip. I really needed to know about that....NOT.

Holy shit! Is it Novartis?

I want some damn ice cream just thinking about this! My hub is a pilot who's company is merging with another national airline. We have no idea if he'll have a job in the coming year. We've already decided to hold on to our house (of course the market's changed now, so we'll make less than if we'd sold it) so we can "cut and run" if need be. Eek.

I'll be thinking about you guys!

See, now, I'm trying to NOT notice that you said Edy's Girl Scout cookie flavors are now out. Because if I did notice that, I'd be rushing out to buy some, then having an evening orgy of ice cream. Nope, not noticing at all.

I gotta run to the store, for, um, vegetables. Yeah, that's it...

No tears? GOOD. Save `em.

Since the kids are so tiny, this will be waaaaay harder on your than on them, which should give you just the teesiest bit of the coldest comfort.

Hang in there!

Candace--- what do you do best? Food-wise, I mean. I don't want to know about the other stuff.

My neighbors brought us a huge bag of truffles from Sam's, which I have eaten almost of of. Damn them. And everyone else here who's talking Girl Scout cookies, etc. because now, I WILL have to polish off the rest of the bag.

Hausfrau--- ToRoNtO!!!! I'm going to go to sleep tonight mentally decorating my house and imagining us within a 2 hour drive of each other. Or neighbors. Do we really have to leave the country to accomplish this?

Okay, me again. I was over at Mama Tulip's (sorrysoldout.blogspot.com), and someone mentioned that Ben and Jerry is coming out with Black and Tan ice cream.

Must have some. Now. When you live next door to me, I'll pass some over the fence to you.

So long as I can have a secret interlude with your friend, Virginia Slim. Just once. I've missed her so these past nine years...

Damn your level headed but incisive approach to all this crap is so damn well fit... Misfit you defy your name. One together, mama.
I send the best electronic form of supportive -- and deep -- thoughts a complete stranger on the internet can send. Good luck.

First you taunt me with the Girl Scout cookie ice cream that I can't get in Oklahoma, THEN you're having a party in Cincy without me? And Candace is COOKING for you?

That's okay, I'll get over it. Really I will. Sniff.

"love that dirty water...oh boston" is a really fun place to live with lots of biomed opportunities!!!!
and the cost of living is super, and you can buy a really big house for... oops, i think i hear my mother calling me. gotta go!

seriously. i hope you guys have lots to feel good about soon. and boston is REALLY fun. that part is true.

Susan, we will get you here for the Goodbye Cincinnati/America party if we have to stuff you in a FedEx box and MAIL you here.

Let's see...never done homemade pierogi, but I'm certainly willing to start practicing now (and I'm sure Mr. Foot would be up for tasting). I do a DAMNED good 'burger (and don't underestimate a fucking great 'burger--they're hard to come by), my pastas are really good...as for the 'other stuff', you'll have to get me good and drunk before I share THAT information!!

LoryKC said...

Hang in there!
I don't know if there are any openings in Kansas right now but my coffee maker works, I can make pierogies and I will go buy ice cream!
My dad worked for one pharmaceutical company for almost 25 years. Then he worked for at least 10 more in the same number of years--lay-offs, buyouts, takeovers...
you'd think supplying Americans with drugs should be booming business! ;)

Jenette said...

I have girl scout cookies and booze. :) Oh. And coffee too :)

Dani said...

I'm sorry...That totally sucks.

mamatulip said...

Good grief, that sucks. I'm sorry.

Kristen said...

Layoffs are so fucking scary. I was pregnant when I was laid off, so I was forced to self-medicate with gallons and gallons of ice cream. If it happened now, I would probably just be drunk for a few days. Eek. Hang in there, it really sucks not knowing anything.

Sorry I haven't stopped by in so long but i'm on a five week vacation. So sorry to hear about the problems. But you're a smart woman and you husband seem to be some kind of genius so I'm confident you will come out of this stronger than ever. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Looking forward to hear some good news soon.

Dude.

Dude.

This whole thing blows. Come back to Jersey!

And thanks for not stooping to drinking cheap beer.

I'm sorry about the layoffs. (I've seen it a lot; it happens often out here in high tech.) Good luck and here's hoping the next place is fabulous.

Cheryl said...

Oh MAN! I'm so sorry to hear about that. I went through a layoff after I'd just moved, too. I really was just fine. But it sucks. May all turn out well for you.

I lost you for a while--I thought you'd taken your blog down 'cause I couldn't get here! Glad you're still here.

OTRgirl said...

Stupid corporations. Moving sucks. Job hunting sucks. Ugh.

BTW, considering all that, it's very impressive that you never got together with Virginia!

Being from Cincy and seeing the Dolly Parton towers built (if he's indeed there) my Dad commented that they would have all kinds of management problems just due to the architecture... Left hand never knowing what the right was doing, etc.

Oh hell.

Well, I was going to suggest a move to Montana (what? We have drugs here too) but then I realized you weren't referring to METH and well, geez, I don't even know what Edy's is..... so never mind.

But I do have a GREAT idea.... why don't you -in the remaining couple of months- start a little side business using the husband's work fed ex account and fancy cold shipping options to sell and mail Edy's ice cream to people like me? You could make up for that shitty 3 month severance package in just a few weeks....

Pinterest Failures said...

I like the way you think Homestead. Maybe you know Edy's as Dreyer's in the west? All you need to know is that it ROCKS!

Susan said...

Dreyer's! Hallelujia! I can get that here!

Feel like moving to Oklahoma? I've got an in with a biomedical research start-up . . . and I have beer. Not good beer, but beer!

Homestead said...

DREYERS. We have that. I'm sort of devoted to Wilcoxsen's (It is made in Montana and has super-high, super-yummy butter fat content) but I can do Dreyers... after all, it's for the Girl Scouts and that's a Good Cause, right??
