Give a child a toy, and it will become lonely and abandoned in the toyroom.
Give a child carte blanche with one kitchen cabinet and they will be happy for hours playing, "Shopping at Target," "Shopping at Kroger," "Let's Play Cooking Show," "Let's Ice Skate (with Tupperware Lids)," and "Baby Girl's and Peaches' Club House," complete with doors.

man those were the days of fun ....who needs toys in the store when ya got pots 'n pans! and lids to skate around on!! (i had forgotten about that!)
Christmas morning... Which does the child like best...the $$$present or the box that it came in.
My boy took on a fun project this past weekend. He's 4, and with Phillips screwdriver in hand, he meticulously removed all of the little safety latches (long since bent under and not used in any way) from my lower kitchen cabinets. He's not crazy about toys, either.
"What did you have these on for, anyway?" he was wondering out loud, concentrating hard on removing the little screws and putting them in his pockets.
"Well, SOME little boy liked getting in my cabinets and pulling out all the pots and pans into the floor" I answered while I was emptying the dishwasher.
"Hmm, well, maybe you shouldn't have let that boy come in the house," he reasoned.
They grow up fast.
"Let's Ice Skate (with Tupperware lids)" sounds like a fun time. I'll have to give that one a try. What about "Driving Parents Crazy by Banging Pots and Pans?" Do they like that one? Used to be one of my all-time favorites!
Amen...I couldn't agree more.
When I only had one child, the oldest didn't really play that much with the pots and pans. But for whatever reason, after her little brother got mobile, they can decimate my cabinets within minutes.
my mom keeps a drawer in her kitchen full of 'kid stuff': old oatmeal cans, mismatched tupperware, pasta, beans, wooden spoons, and some other random jumk. it's every kid's favorite stop!
so how bout that move to boston?
That's funny. My youngest has just started playing with toys in the last month. It was great to see her more interested in the boxes and bowes at Christmas instead of the expensive toys. For the longest time her favorite toy was a plastic spoon.
UGH! Ain't it the truth. I've found my new toy dealer:
Goodwill Thrift Store
And then I don't feel so bad anymore...
