Weekend Recap--President's Day Weekend Version

Herr Hausfrau and I had an enjoyable President's Day weekend, despite the fact that we had gotten "the news" of Herr's impending unemployment. We ate a lot of food and drank a lot of beer. Some of you may be thinking, "How is that different from any other weekend at Hausfrau Haus?" Well, you would be quite RUDE to think that, now wouldn't you? In particular, we ate our weight in Girl Scout Cookies as they came delivered by our sweet Girl Scout Cookie Sales Consultant "Amber" on Saturday afternoon. Some of the GS Cookies were eaten in conjunction with the Edy's GS Cookie Ice Cream--awwyeah! Herr had ordered the cookies awhile back one day and we had been chomping at the bit to get them and eat them. After Amber the GSC Consultant delivered the cookies, I got ready to tear into them.

"Here Herr," I said. "Here are your Samoas. Oh wait, I'll have to call Amber because there are Thin Mints in this bag instead of Tagalongs."

"I didn't order Tagalongs," came the reply from the living room.

"What the fuck do you mean you didn't order Tagalongs?! You KNOW those are my FAVORITE Girl Scout Cookie--the same way Samoas are your favorite. We have been together 15 years and you FORGOT that my favorite Girl Scout Cookie is the Tagalong?!?!?!? That's something that any good spouse knows about the other. I believe it is covered on the second date! I don't even know who you are anymore!"

"I'm sorry Hausfrau, I forgot. But you like Thin Mints, don't you?"

"Ppffft, NO!" I said, my cookie-full mouth spraying Thin Mint crumbs across the kitchen. "Pppfft You Suck!"

After I ate an entire box of Thin Mints (there might be 12 cookies in the box) I called Amber's mom and left a message to get more cookies if they had any to spare. Within 30 minutes we had four more boxes of cookies--two Tagalongs and two Samoas. Because that's just the kind of wife I am.

Since it was a long weekend, Herr wasn't really in a position to do much job hunting since no one would be receiving the resumes until Tuesday. Besides, his boss told his group that all ressearch stops as of now and that all the employees need to do from now until June 30 is finish up any publications they might be working on, and look for a job. Currently, job hunting is not taking up too much of his day at work. But that didn't stop me from looking for him. I can't help it--it's the HR in me. I'm a recruiter by trade, so I basically live on the job sites for work. I need not have bothered, as he pretty much knew about all of the existing openings with every major pharmacutical company in the country. Herr has a good reputation in his field and has a lot of contacts, including his former boss in New Jersey. In his type of field, you never get a job from Monster.com. You get it because someone knows you. That doesn't bode well when one has a meddling recruiter wife who wants to help.

I have all the faith in the world that Herr is going to find a great job and we are going to be fine. We always have been. It's just that I am a wreck because all I can think about is that we have no idea where we will be living in 4-6 months. While that may seem like a long time, it's not. After Herr told me where all of his contacts work, I spent the rest of the weekend looking at houses on Realtor.com to get a feel for each market (New Jersey, CT, Boston, Raleigh, San Francisco and Ontario, Canada.) We've already agreed that if he gets his old job back in New Jersey, we would live in PA. If he gets a job in Boston, we'll live in New Hampshire. etc.

I realize that I need to calm the hell down. My perpetual state of obsessing over the uncontrollable will drive all of us nuts. I am hoping that going to the gym more will help relieve some of my stress. One of the plus sides to the layoff announcement is that Herr no longer needs to get to work at the ass-crack of dawn, so I can go to the gym every morning before he goes to work. Well, every morning might be a bit unrealistic, but three days in the same week would be a good start. Unfortunately, any one who really knows me know that I am not happy unless I am worrying or obsessing about something. Because that's just the kind of wife I am.

Girlie, I FEEL you. We JUST found out Daddymatic's job sitch that starts in the fall semester (read: July) and up until that date, I was going NUTS. Now I'm all over the real estate market in Salt Lake City and getting up in the mortgage guy's grill. It's too much. Hey, if you end up moving back east, maybe we'll pass each other on the highway as we move west. Oy.

And do your girl scout cookies still go by the samoa and tagalong monikers? Because the last few years, I've noticed the boxes saying mad shit like "peanut butter patties" or "cononut-caramel meltaways" instead of Samoas or whatever. What's up with THAT??

Oh yes, Stephanie, the Girl Scouts have changed the name of the Samoas to a more PC name. Whatever. They are Samoas. I have no idea why they changed the names of the other cookies. Herr claimed that he was confused by the names of the cookies and wasn't triggered by any of the cookie names to remember tagalongs. I almost believe him but not really.

Ok so ...I can eat a whole box of Thin Mints and not even take a breath. I don't know what they put in those cookies I assume they're in cahoots with Starbucks somehow. And another thing, it bothers me greatly that your lil' GS Consultant has brought your cookies but the lil' monster has yet to show her face around here. Now I don't know about you-but my Aunt Flo came this week and I'm not above stalkin' the lil girls outside the Walmart store.
Cookies sound good..with a big bowl of ...more cookies.
I would love to move from Ohio...moving West would be nice...or East like Virginia...NC...It'll all be ok...you'll see...but I know whatcha mean...I like to KNOW what the hell is goin' on...and if I don't? I stress..then I eat...which brings me back to the cookies.
I'mma call that lil girl right now find out where my cookies are.

Hey, hey, hey...what are your thoughts about hookin' up this weekend??

And I can't *believe* that the man didn't get you any Tagalongs. Bad, bad husband! Bad!

Do Girl Scout cookies arrive at different times in different parts of the country? I got mine at the end of January - I say that not in the "ha ha I got my cookies first" sense but in the "dammit mine are gone now, how can I score some more?" sense.

I'm not really sure Lumpyheadsmom. I know that the Girl Scouts here are going to be hawking their wares in front of the local big box retailers and grocery stores over the next couple of Saturdays. And I have no doubt that we will possess more overpriced, miniature boxes of happiness. I imagine I will have to force myslef to go to the gym 4-5 times a week to make up for it.

I hear you...It's tough living in limbo like that, not knowing where you going to live, with the decision being out of your control. This translates into your to help your husband, to be able to take action and do something.

I know you've heard it a bazillion time already, but hang in there.

No knowing would kill me. I am too much of a worrier for that. If it helps, I have a theory that when you are seriously stressed, cookies don't have calories. Just thought I'd share. Man now I wish I knew a girl scout.

With all of you jonesing for Girl Scout Cookies, I am thinking I may have a brand new Ebay business. Think I'll give my little Girl Scout Cookie Sales Consultant a call...

God you're funny!

My husband offered me some pumpkin pie last Thanksgiving. Wait, make that he put a piece down in front of me. So? you ask.

I get flak for it, but I hate pumpkin pie. Hate the smell, the site, and forget the taste. And my husband knows it, but claims he forgot. After 13 years together? After all of our conversations about baking home made apple pies next holiday in the hopes that no on will miss the pumpkin?

I think not sweetheart.

Toronto.

We will not rest until every single one of our friends has escaped en masse to the Great White North.

And you're first on our list, sister.

Did you notice how I'm practicing my french by using "en masse" in a sentence?

I used to love GS cookies but stopped eating (um, well at least ordering) them when I got hip to trans-fats. Dosidos are my fave. I wish they'd change the recipe. Now I have to bake all my own cookies just so I can use real butter.

I love Thin Mints. Just the other day I was at work and we gave the girl scotts a tour; they thanked us with boxes of GS cookies. So now I have one box of thin mints. Yum!

Yep..received my shipment of GS cookies this afternoon and already had the door to door girls trying to sell me more. I ate the entire box of Lemon Coolers (my fav). What really pisses me off is that not all cookies are offered in all areas. The Girl Scouts have several places making the cookies, so not all are made the same and that is
why the names are different...I bet Juliette Gordon Low wishes she had gotten in the deal of mass selling COOKIES when she started the GS.
Hausfrau did you participate in the GS. I cannot believe I have known you all these years and never asked????? Lori

Oh yes--I was a girl scout. And I as a kick-ass GSC Sales Consultant--thanks to my grandmother working at American Home Foods and passing around the sales forms. She helped me earn a trip to camp.

I was also the lone 6th grader in Girl Scouts at my elementary school. Not cool. My mother wouldn't let me drop out even though I begged her.

living in eastern PA, wouldn't that just be too tantalizing though, so many hours away from the burgh? So many difficult decisions ahead for you guys. We're looking at houses in Detroit this week, and after reading your recent posts I feel so lucky that at least we know where we're going. I've never owned a home before, and this househunting thing is HARD.
